2.) Straightener Gear Box Re-Manufactured
Part # 317891
Straightener head gear box on Littell scroll sheeting lines reliability can be extended by regular preventive maintenance. The bearings and seals should be changed out at least every one to two years and oil changed semi annually.
If your head is in need of a major rebuild, that is more than just bearing and seal change, Littell has a low cost alternative and offers minimal downtime in change out.
This gear box assembly is for use with all #438, 442, 450 straightening machines (excluding BR5 lines).
The gear box has an original part number of D39200 and is interchangeable with units supplied on lines built up to 1963.

The refurbishment includes new bearings, seals, required drive gears, etc. Casting and cover bores have been re-machined and bushed to insure long bearing life.
(For new assembly, use part #D39200).

3.) Straightener - Upper-Pinch Roll-Urethane Covered
Improve the performance of your existing #438/442 Straightening Machine by updating or replacing the existing upper pinch rolls on your equipment with urethane coated components.
Equipment built prior to 1969 were fitted with steel chromed smooth finish upper and lower pinch rolls with the same outside diameters.
Littell's standard 16 roll straightener heads built after 1965 were supplied with larger outgoing pinch rolls. In the late 1960s the upper rolls were updated to urethane finish. This feature allows the material to be "pulled" through the straightening rolls, reducing material build up in the head due to differential in roll surface speed.
As a low cost alternative for maintaining your existing equipment Littell is now offering re-manufactured rolls which are re-worked to original specifications including the correct taper to insure that material will track through center of the head.
These rolls are machined to the correct diameter for ingoing/outgoing positions. Journals are re-machined to insure proper bearing fit.

Part numbers for remanufactured upper pinch rolls are
X 317892 upper outgoing 442 stra head
X 317893 upper ingoing 442 stra head
X 317894 upper outgoing 438 stra head
X 317895 upper ingoing 438 stra head
Delivery is available from stock for both 438 and 442 straightener heads.
For NEW replacement polyurethane coated pinch rolls, use the following part numbers for reference
X126732 upper outgoing 442 stra head
X126731 upper ingoing 442 stra head
X070780 upper outgoing 438 stra head
X075147 upper ingoing 438 stra head

4.) S250 Uncoiler Spindle Assembly Maintenance / Upgrade Kits
If the uncoiler on your line is more than ten years old or has not been audited in some years, it may be time to check on spindle bearing condition.
To determine proper existing pre-load of the bearings, the coil car can be used as a jack. Move the car up against the spindle housing and using coil car saddle with an extension, apply pressure to the spindle shaft just outside spindle shaft bearing retainer. Any movement noticed at this point indicates that it is time to do a bearing change.
Littell has spindle shaft maintenance kits on hand including all required bearings, gears, seals, and retainers to make the repair smooth.

(Picture above is Spindle Maintenance Kit Part #313718 which includes a of bearings, seals, gears, spider, and rollers for a complete replacement package.)
